ARGENTINA BY MICHEL ROLLAND
ON THE ROAD TO ADVENTURE …
"Wander, the wings of augury will come and attach themselves to your shoulders" (A. Breton - The Surrealism and Painting)
So took in charge, from our arrival at Salta, by the Argentinean couple, and after a visit of this attractive colonial city, according to the rules, we went off to explore at once the North of the province, adjoining Bolivia.
Extraordinary and surprising landscapes unfolded from Salta to Jujuy.
We went until the Humahuaca Quebrada, spectacular canyon with its multiple shades rocks - seven colours mountain worthy of a painter’s brush and palette – and were rocked, by car, by the tunes of folk music of the group Los Chalchaleros whose founder was Kuky’s husband.
We crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, materialized by a simple small stone by the roadside… what a symbol!
What changes of environment: climatic, visual, cultural, gastronomic, what a delight! Altitude, latitude, purity of the air, history, pre-Columbian and colonial remnants, seamed and smiling Indian people's faces steeped in their past, handcraft llama or vigogna wool, and everywhere, small picturesque white churches with their cactus wooden roof structure... and above all, a quality as nice as colour, the light.
