MARIFLOR SAUVIGNON BLANC - Mendoza

2 ha of Mariflor have been planted with Sauvignon Blanc since 2003.

Grapes selected by hand are vinified in new French oak barrels and in a small egg-shaped concrete vat (where the free convection movements allow mixing of the lees, among other things…)

These winemaking choices are dictated by the will to preserve the wine’s freshness and fruit, the grapes being naturally filled with sunshine and generosity, the ageing on lees during 6 months bringing body and aromatic complexity.

The first vintages of “Mariflor sauvignon blanc” were very appreciated as much as by the Argentinean market, not familiar with this grape variety, as by export…and Jay Miller (Wine Advocate) wrote in August 2009, regarding the 2008 vintage:  “Lovely perfume of grapefruit, lemon-lime, and fresh herbs. On the palate mineral notes emerge to add complexity to this rich, mouth-filling Sauvignon. It has exceptional volume, savory flavors, and a lengthy, pure finish.

New World Sauvignon does not get much better than this !" 91 points.

Wine Advocate #192 - Dec 2010

The Rolland Collection offerings include one white wine, the 2009 Mariflor Sauvignon Blanc. It spent 6 months in new French barrels sur lie with batonnage. Light gold in color with a pleasing nose of buttered popcorn, bee's wax, honey, and melon, on the palate it is a touch off-dry (2.7g residual sugar) with a viscous texture. It has plenty of flavor and adequate acidity. The safest plan is to drink it during its first 2-3 years of life.
